Margaret Fernandes Trosclair, beloved wife of the late Alvin C. Trosclair entered into eternal life at the age of 89 on Saturday, November 12, 2011. Margaret was the beloved daughter of Frank and Rose G. Fernandes and was born on the beautiful island of Kauai, Hawaii on December 28, 1921. She was a talented pianist in her youth and had a real passion for music. Those who knew Margaret were touched by her kindness, compassion, selfless acts and love for life. She graduated from Waimea High School and went on to work for the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor Naval Base where she met her lifelong soul mate Alvin, who was a WWII Army Veteran at Pearl Harbor. They were married on the beautiful island of Kauai, at St. Theresa's Church and traveled to New Orleans after WWII to begin their lifelong journey together. Margaret was a beautiful person in every way. She was the loving mother of Ronnie Trosclair (Wife Mary), Leonard Trosclair, Janet T. Schultz (Husband David) and Linda T. Jung (Husband Bill). She leaves a legacy of 6 beloved grandchildren;, Nicole Trosclair-Burgess, Amy Schultz-Heim, David Schultz, Jr., Lori Schultz-Grayson, William Jung III, Joseph Trosclair and 7 great beloved grandchildren. Margaret loved dining out in the fine food restaurants of New Orleans, as well as the fun filled shopping sprees with the girls. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and will always be remembered by her beautiful smile and tender heart.

Aunt Margaret

There are many childhood memories with Margaret but the one that stays with me the most is when we would spend a week each summer in Kokee and the Waimea Canyon on Kaua'i. We liked to go to a small open field which was covered with moss and jump up and down in our barefeet. It was a wonderful feeling then and has stayed with me these many years. God bless you Margaret.

Thoughts and prayers with you all. I was a child the last time I saw Aunt Margaret, in New Orleans, when I traveled there from Hawaii with her uncle Joe and his wife Elizabeth (my great uncle and aunt) - in 1958, I believe. Margaret reminded me of my own mother, her sister Frances, who is also a kind and loving person with a talent for music. Sincere and heartfelt condolences.  Frances

Spiritual Fulfillment Found in the Kitchen

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord…For their works follow them.”  (Rv 14:13)

Death came swiftly for Sister Claire Fernandes of Sacred Hearts Convent on July 27. The former Louise Fernandes was born into a family of ten children on October 28, 1902.

Following the death of one of her brothers, Sister Claire assumed the responsibility of raising his children. Consequently, it was only in 1941 that Sister entered the convent in Nuuanu. After her profession of vows at Sacred Hearts Academy on April 16, 1944, Sister performed various domestic duties. For almost thirty years, Sister was the convent cook, a duty which certainly called forth daily generous self-giving of time and energy. Yet, in spite of the fatigue from a day’s work in the kitchen, Sister Claire frequently offered to make an extra night adoration whenever there was a time slot to fill. While Sister spent many hours in quiet reading and/or contemplation in the chapel, she loved to crochet and embroider during her leisure periods.

Since 1976 Sister Claire has been semi-retired. She followed all Community exercises as far as she was able, and helped with tasks in the central infirmary up until two weeks before God called her home to Himself.

The Requiem Mass was celebrated by His Excellency, John J. Scanlan, Bishop of Honolulu, on Tuesday, Aug.1. Interment was at Diamond Head Memorial Park.

Sister Claire is survived by a brother, John, of Downey, California, and many nieces and nephews.
